August 20, 2010

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome Back to School! This summer has flown by, and I am truly excited about another year as principal of Lower Gwynedd!   My ultimate goal here is to continue working collaboratively with my staff and you to ensure the academic and social success of your children.  There will be a lot of new experiences during the 2010-2011 school year.  Again, our students at Lower Gwynedd and across the district have the benefit of skilled teachers using state-of-the-art technology at all levels. While technology continues to support and enhance our students’ academic program, our focus is always the development of strong readers, writers, and citizens. As always, the primary goal for my staff and me is to maximize achievement for each student at Lower Gwynedd.

The first day of school for students is August 30.  Students should report to school no later than 8:30 A.M.  August 30 will be an early dismissal day with school ending at 11:50 AM.  On that day, families who wish to visit and tour Lower Gwynedd may do so from 1:00-3:00 PM.  August 31 is a full day of school for students and dismissal is 3:10 P.M.

Classroom assignments for this year are enclosed in this mailing.  Assignments will provide you with the name of your child’s teacher for the 2010-2011 school year.  Careful consideration of the composition of each class has been made.  No changes will be made to the class assignments.  Supply lists are available on the district website on Lower Gwynedd’s home page.  (www.wsdweb.org)

I would like to invite all families to attend the Lower Gwynedd Back to School Picnic on September 1st from 5:30 PM- 7:00 PM. This wonderful event is an opportunity for all Lower Gwynedd families to come together and share some fun and food.  Please bring a picnic dinner and join us for an enjoyable evening.

The Lower Gwynedd Home and School Association provides so many wonderfully enriching events for our students over the course of the year.  Parents and guardians are encouraged to join this organization.  Meetings are held monthly, and we invite participation in these meetings.  Current members and I are asking all parents and guardians to consider volunteering in some way during this school year.  It is very possible to volunteer “from home” if you are not able to come to school.  Your support of this organization and Lower Gwynedd School is greatly appreciated and important to the progress of our students.

As parents and guardians, it is important to be active participants in your child’s education.  We know that parents and guardians are a critical component in the academic success of students.  Our goal is to work in partnership with you to provide the best educational experience possible for your child.  Please do not hesitate to contact us at any time if questions or concerns arise.

Sincerely,

Nicole West
