Dear Parents and Guardians of Incoming Kindergarten Students:
The Wissahickon Transportation Department is already busily preparing for the students this fall! As you get ready to send your student off to Kindergarten this year, the Transportation Department assures you that safety and well-being are the primary focus and concern.
The first ride on a big yellow bus can be an anxious event for any 5 or 6 year old, especially if it means leaving family for the first time. In an effort to ease any anxiety, all Wissahickon families are invited to attend a very special "K-Bus Adventure" to be held at Shady Grove Elementary and Blue Bell Elementary Schools. Students can explore the inside of the bus, learn about bus safety, and then ride around the neighborhood. One parent or guardian is invited to ride along (no siblings please, due to space limitations). Important safety training including education regarding the "danger zone" around the bus while loading and unloading will be shared. We welcome all Kindergarten students, even if your child is a "walker" they can still participate and learn the safety rules also. After all, all students experience bus rides when they attend field trips and it will be a fun experience for them too!
Participation in K-Bus Adventure is voluntary and does not take the place of the annual Kindergarten Orientation which will be held at each school on August 28, from 12:00-1:30 pm. Please consider giving your student a "sneak preview" and the experience of riding the school bus before the first big day! No reservations are necessary, just show up at either location for the adventure.
