Fourth grade students at Lower Gwynedd Elementary received customized photography sessions from award-winning photographer, author and poet, Charles R. Smith Jr., as part of a WEOF grant submitted by art teacher, Scott Williamson and librarian, Holly Carlson. Using 15 new digital cameras, also purchased with the grant, students learned photography skills from Mr. Smith including lighting and positioning. The skills learned throughout the sessions will be further developed and incorporated into the Lower Gwynedd art curriculum to benefit all students K-5.
Mr. Smith also provided 3 large group assembly programs (K-1, 2-3, 4-5) during which he shared stories about his experiences as a photographer and author of more than 30 books and encouraged students to explore their creativity and interests.
The Stony Creek Home and School Association also sponsored student assemblies with Mr. Smith.
