WHS Recieves Two Promising Practices Awards for Character Education

Wissahickon is proud to announce that WHS has received two Promising Practice Awards for its character education programs from Character.org Schools of Character Program. The two recognized programs are the Friends of Rachel (FOR) Gratitude Calendar and Gratitude Jars.

Students in the FOR Club developed a Gratitude Calendar incorporating 30 acts of kindness into a calendar and challenged all staff and students to use the calendar as a daily guide to perform at least one act of kindness per day throughout the month of November.

Gratitude Jars are mason jars designed and decorated by FOR students to hold notes of gratitude and capture moments, events, people, and/or items he/she appreciates on a daily basis. FOR students shared this message and gave gratitude jars to three individuals outside of his/her circle of friends, and challenged the recipients to consider ways he/she can continue the positive chain reaction of kindness.

Character.org is a national character education organization that recognizes school initiatives that demonstrate great character teaching and activities. Last year, WHS received a Promising Practice Award for its RAKtavist program.

Congratulations to all of our students for demonstrating kindness and respect for others! #WissCares
