Reading Olympics 2012-2013
The goal of the Reading Olympics program is to increase students' interest in reading for enjoyment , to strengthen reading skills and to foster collaboration and teamwork. Students meet with their coaches and teammates to work together to read the forty books that have been selected by a committee of librarians, reading specialists and classroom teachers from Montgomery and Bucks Counties. In the spring, the students attend a county-wide competition where they answer questions written by these professionals. Reading Olympics are primarily a celebration of reading rather than a contest. All participants are awarded ribbons and the students are genuinely excited about participating in this event.
If interested in volunteering in the Library, please contact Shady Grove's Librarian, Mrs. Merin, via email (firstname.lastname@example.org
) or phone, ext. 2507.
The library does accept donations of new and gently used books, especially books from the Reading Olympics list. Please contact Mrs. Merin if you have books to donate to the Shady Grove Library.
