Trojan Baseball knocks off undefeated Bears...Times Herald
The pressure couldn’t have been greater for Wissahickon. After a tough loss to Norristown on Friday, the Trojan’s game on Senior Day against top-ranked Upper Moreland meant their season. They did their job however, knocking off the Bears —Suburban One’s only undefeated team.
Both with seven wins a piece in SOL – American, Norristown played second-place Cheltenham at the same time Wissahickon played their final home game of the season. While a victory did not guarantee playoff entry, a loss meant certain death.
“We still have a mathematical chance of getting into the playoffs, but that would be impossible without a win today,” Wissahickon coach Shannon Gunby said.
Starting off quickly, the Trojans tacked on two runs in the bottom of the first. With two outs came three straight hits. Outfielder Greg McDonough singled, pitcher Randy Frankenfield doubled to right and Matt Oruch cleared the bases.
Next inning, Frankenfield was able to take the mound and pitch with a solid buffer.
“(The Bears) are a great hitting team, I have a lot of respect for those guys,” Frankenfield said. “That two run lead helped me get through those next couple innings.”
Tacking on two more in the third inning, the Trojans led a comfortable 4-0. Frankenfield was settled in and dealing. He kept his pitches down in the zone, worked both his curveball and fastball for strikes and in facing 30 batters, he threw 18 first-pitch strikes.

"We Believe" letter from WHS Principal, Lyn Fields, for the week of 5/13/13
Good Evening,
This will be an early evening “We Believe Shout Out”. There was a beautiful double rainbow this evening. I wonder what the significance of this was now that we are entering the last five weeks of school for the Class of 2013. I hope it is a good sign relative to the end of the year.
On Thursday, May 9th, The Triangle Club of Montgomery County celebrated 50 years of recognizing students from districts who stood out in three areas: Scholarship, Sports and Service. This year our representative was Rachel Stone. She represented us well as our selection to this distinguished club. This anniversary banquet celebrating a half century honoring students and many previous award winners were welcomed back. Our own Matthew Schulman who was last year’s award winner was injured in one of his many adventure and was unable to make the dinner. However, in the special booklet reviewing the 50 years, Matt’s article kicks off the booklet, as well as articles of the last Wissahickon winner, John Ashmore in 1967. Rachel’s mother and father joined members of WHS at a table honoring her selection to this prestigious group of talented nominees. Rachel Stone stood tall and proud with the 31 other nominees. Well Done Rachel Stone, WHS and the WSD community are most proud of you.
Brendan Hopkins competed in the Blue Bell Rotary speech contest and went on to win the regional contest. We know that comes as no surprise with this talented young man. His speech relative to gun control was well done. Check out this web site. By the way well done Brendan. : http://www.clubrunner.ca/Portal/story/StoryDetail.aspx?accountid=4345&sid=346426&stid Here is a recap of some of our sports teams final games this spring season. TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK…Thank you and congratulations to our talented and successful WHS staff. I thank you for all the efforts you continue to make on behalf of the students of Wissahickon High School. We celebrate each of you and honor you all during this week.
Well, I know there will be late submissions for this WE BELIEVE and they will have to be added in next week’s edition. For now, letting you know that Bogie has completed his third class and is doing very well. The trainer of Puppy Head Start says he is very laid back but learns quickly. I think he has already grown in the past three weeks. He and Cozy love to play at the strangest hours in the day but seem to be getting along very well.
Enjoy your Sunday.
Lyn

Click this news headline to read an important letter outlining the procedures for 9th Grade Laptop Collection on Monday, June 17th
May 6, 2013
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We wanted to provide you with information explaining plans for Laptop Collection prior to summer vacation. Our staff has been notified of the laptop collection date and is planning finals accordingly. Please note the following information and procedures for students to turn in their laptops for the summer scheduled for Monday, June 17th.
On June 17th, students will be escorted to the Audion at a time when they are scheduled for Social Studies class. If a student does not have a social studies class on June 17th, students will be called to the Audion at a separate time during the day. The district technology department will coordinate laptop collection. Students will be directed into the Audion into one of two lines.
One line will be students who have laptops with no problems—laptops turn on, computer bag is available, students will sign off that the computer has been received and off they go. The second line will be for students where a computer has a problem and/or has damage that is noted. A picture of the computer will be taken, students will sign that the computer is received and a letter will be mailed home outlining the bill to cover the damage.
Please note that students must bring their laptop, bag and charger to school on Monday, June 17th for the end of year turn-in process. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. John McGowan, Director of Technology at 215-619-8000, ext. 3049.

Please click this news headline for an important announcement about student drop-off from Principal Lyn Fields.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Please note that the front entrance in the morning should not be used as student drop off. The stadium lot and lower lot by the auditorium are drop off points for students in the morning. This is NOT a new procedure. The stadium and lower lots, which is also the student parking lot, has always been where students should be dropped off in the morning.
There has been a steady increase in morning drop off at the front of the building. This has become an increasing dangerous situation since the front of the building is used for bus pick-up and drop-off, as well as students who ride their bikes to school.
If your child has an early dismissal for an appointment throughout the day, he/she will be dismissed at the front entrance.
Thank you for your cooperation. Lyn Fields Principal
