Equity Indicator - Staffing Composition
Introduction
This equity indicator, Staff Composition, examines the racial/ethnic composition of district staff in these categories: certificated administrators, all other certificated staff, and non-certificated staff. A certificated employee is any person employed by the district in a teaching, instructional, supervisory, educational administrative, or educational capacity (e.g., teacher, supervisor, administrator, educational specialist, school nurse, librarian).
National, state, and local data show that the racial representation gap between students and educators is large and growing, especially during a time when the numbers of students of color are increasing. The current body of literature shows the positive impact that staff of color can have on all students. It is with this awareness that the district moves forward regarding staff diversity and representation across three staffing subgroups in its recruitment and retention efforts.
