Evaluation Process & Timeline
- Why is the District considering a change in school start/end times?
- What are the current school schedules for WSD schools?
- What are the challenges of changing start/end times?
- Who is on the Start/End Time Advisory Committee?
- What is the timeline for possible implementation of a schedule change?
- There are many areas that will be affected. How is this decision being made?
- Are we considering if other districts are making a change? Should this be a county decision?
- What’s the plan if we implement a change and it isn't working? What are the assessment measures?
- Do we feel confident of the survey results given the benefits of the School Start and End Times were not fully explained to students and families?
- Will the responses of the three survey groups be weighed equally? Will we have another survey to gather feedback for the final two choices?
- Would we consider diving deeper into the results by specific grade levels?
- Once the Board makes the decision, will they provide a rationale?
- Is there any thought to delaying the decision to do a deeper dive and take more time to consider other options?
- Is there still a consideration for no change?
- If a significant majority of both the student and staff stakeholders support no change, and a significant percentage of parents support no change, why wouldn’t the weight of all these stakeholders lean toward no change?

Areas of Impact
- What's the arrival time for NMTCC? Would those students get more sleep?
- Will coaches and advisors move rehearsals, meetings, practices to the morning?
- With reduced hours to complete school work after school, would students potentially be staying up even later to complete school work?
- Will my students be able to participate in community activities that currently take place right after school?
- There are waiting lists for YMCA childcare here and in other districts. Is additional childcare even an option given the waitlist status?
- If practices, rehearsals, meetings were moved to the morning, will we have activity buses?
- Are we thinking about the impact on students in Social Lab? Also, if we are suggesting virtual classes for NMTCC students, is that in their best interest?
- Has it been considered that many of the negative impacts (after school jobs, inability to care for siblings, potential removal of school-sponsored transportation for activities) will disproportionately impact our students from lower income families?
- Have you thought about the impact on student nutrition? A lot of students don’t eat breakfast and some also don’t eat lunch. With a time change, we would push lunch times back in the school day as well as dinner time at home.
- Have we considered giving all students a study hall last period at WHS? This would help with students leaving early for sports, work-study programs, etc.
- It looks like other schools that changed start/end times are struggling with student-athletes missing instruction. How has this been addressed? Is it correct that Quakertown is considering going back to their previous schedule?
- Have you considered parents who use before school care for their children? They do so because they need to get to work and if start times are pushed back, that could increase the time of before care to two hours before school even starts?
- How much of an obstacle is busing?
- Are the private/parochial schools on board with this change?
- Upper Dublin High School starts at 7:50 am and ends at 2:30 pm, an 18 minute shorter day. Why do we have a longer school day? Are we willing to adjust the total length of our day?
- Will the change lead to an increase in school and property taxes?
- NMTCC students would they not derive any benefit from a later start time and some would actually be deprived of in-person instruction for at least 1 class each day. Is this idea fair to these students?
