The Wissahickon Leadership Team, which is comprised of the seven senior-level central office administrators and all six building principals, firmly believes in the need for meaningful and lasting systemic change in the areas of racial equity and cultural responsiveness. We are committed to the cause, and look forward to embarking on a major, multi-year initiative that addresses such topics as training/professional development for staff and students, curriculum/program reviews and matters related to staff diversity and equity leadership.
We were inspired by the speakers at the recent rally held at Penllyn Park, which included both current students as well as WHS alums, and came away both impressed and moved by the passion of the speakers and their stories. It takes courage to get up and speak in front of people, especially when the subject matter can be so personal and painful, and we hope to build off the momentum that the rally has generated and work towards that systemic change that is long overdue.
An important next step in the process will take place on Monday, August 24, 2020, at the Regular Public Board Meeting (7:00pm, via Zoom). A presentation will be shared on the status of various topics and plans related to racial equity, and we invite all of Wiss Nation to join in to see how our district’s journey down this important path begins.
