What was your first job?
My first job was working as a tour guide, serving tourists coming to Poland or Polish citizens traveling to different countries in Europe. One day, I was taking a group of American scientists to visit the birth place of Frederic Chopin, a Polish composer. I was very nervous to talk on the microphone, especially because I had to speak English, which was my 4th and newly learned language at the time. The good part was that I was sitting in front of the coach bus, hence while talking I did not have to face my audience. My hands were sweating and my mouth was dry, and I could hear the complete silence while I was sharing the story. Talking about being outside of your comfort zone! Well, I surely did it and it was my proud moment. Still today I am not in favor of facing the large audiences, but I surely don’t mind facing my students. They are the coolest!

Have you ever been told you look like someone famous, and who was it?
I was told many times, especially when I was younger, that I looked like Meryl Streep! Strangers as well as family members were sharing the same impression. Honestly, I have never seen the resemblance, but it feels good to be compared to such an intelligent and talented woman.

If you had a time machine, would go back in time or into the future? Why?
Back in time. I love history and wish I could experience it first-hand, so I would go back to different time periods to experience what life was like.

What did you name your first car?
The Chariot - my car from college. It was a rusty, junky car that was as old as I was. It was far from a luxury ride but I loved it. My friends teased me about it and called it the Chariot. It is still the best car I've ever had!
