Free & Reduced Meal Application
Healthy meals are essential to students’ ability to focus on learning. Wissahickon School District offers healthy meals every school day. Breakfast and lunch meals are available at all six Wissahickon schools. During the 2025-2026 year, all Wissahickon students may receive free breakfast each school day. Students eligible for free or reduced-price school meals will not be charged for lunch. For students with a Paid school meal eligibility status, school lunch costs: Elementary-$2.65, Middle School-$2.70, and High School-$2.75.
Additionally, students eligible to receive free or reduced meals are also eligible to receive SUN Bucks (Summer EBT) program the following summer (2025), without the need to apply. SUN Bucks is operated through the Department of Human Services. For more information, see below or visit SUN Bucks website.
We invite our families to apply for free school lunches. A qualified application may provide additional federal program benefits. To be eligible for free lunch meals, families need to complete an application unless they participate in a qualified benefits program (e.g., SNAP, TANF, or certain Medical Assistance).

WHO CAN GET FREE OR REDUCED-PRICE MEALS OR SPECIAL MILK?
- All children in households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)(formerly the Food Stamp Program) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)benefits are eligible for free meals.
- Foster children who are under the legal responsibility of a foster care agency or court areeligible for free meals.
- Children participating in their school’s Head Start program are eligible for free meals.
- Children who meet the definition of homeless, runaway, or migrant are eligible for free meals.
- Children may receive free or reduced-price meals if your household’s income is within thelimits on the Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines. Your children may qualify for free or reduced-price meals if your household income falls at or below the limits on this chart.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY CHILDREN QUALIFY AS HOMELESS, MIGRANT, OR RUNAWAY?
Do the members of your household lack a permanent address? Are you staying together ina shelter, hotel, or other temporary housing arrangement? Does your family relocate on a seasonal basis?Are any children living with you who have chosen to leave their prior family or household? DO I NEED TO FILL OUT AN APPLICATION FOR EACH CHILD?
No. Use one Free andReduced-Price School Meals Application for all students in your household. We cannot approve anapplication that is not complete, so be sure to fill out all required information. SHOULD I FILL OUT AN APPLICATION IF I RECEIVED A LETTER THIS SCHOOL YEARSAYING MY CHILDREN ARE ALREADY APPROVED FOR FREE MEALS?
No, but read theletter you received carefully and follow the instructions. If any children in your household were missingfrom your eligibility notification letter, contact the Wissahickon Administrative Office, (215) 619-8000.
CAN I APPLY ONLINE?
Yes! You are encouraged to complete an online application instead of a paperapplication if you are able. The online application has the same requirements and will ask you for thesame information as the paper application. MY CHILD’S APPLICATION WAS APPROVED LAST YEAR. DO I NEED TO FILL OUT ANEW ONE?
Yes. Your child’s application is only good for that school year and for the first 30 operatingschool days of this school year. You must send in a new application unless the school told you that yourchild is eligible for the new school year.
I GET WIC. CAN MY CHILDREN GET FREE MEALS?
Children in households participating inWIC may be eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Send in an application.
WILL THE INFORMATION I GIVE BE CHECKED?
Yes. We may also ask you to send writtenproof of the household income you report.
IF I DON’T QUALIFY NOW, MAY I APPLY LATER?
Yes, you may apply at any time during theschool year. For example, children with a parent or guardian who becomes unemployed may becomeeligible for free and/or reduced-price meals if the household income drops below the income limit.
WHAT IF I DISAGREE WITH THE SCHOOL’S DECISION ABOUT MY APPLICATION?

MAY I APPLY IF SOMEONE IN MY HOUSEHOLD IS NOT A U.S. CITIZEN?
Yes. You, yourchildren, or other household members do not have to be U.S. citizens to apply for free or reduced-pricemeals.
WHAT IF MY INCOME IS NOT ALWAYS THE SAME?
List the amount that you normallyreceive. For example, if you normally make $1000 each month, but you missed some work last month andonly made $900, put down that you made $1000 per month. If you normally get overtime, include it, butdo not include it if you only work overtime sometimes. If you have lost a job or had your hours or wagesreduced, use your current income.
WHAT IF SOME HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS HAVE NO INCOME TO REPORT?
Householdmembers may not receive some types of income we ask you to report on the application or may notreceive income at all. Whenever this happens, write a 0 in the field. However, if any income fields are leftempty or blank, those will also be counted as zeroes. Be careful when leaving income fields blank, as wewill assume you meant to do so.
SUN Bucks
This year Pennsylvania will launch SUN Bucks, Pennsylvania’s Summer EBT program, a new grocery benefits program that provides households with a one-time payment of $120 for each eligible child to buy food while school is out. Benefits can be used at local participating retailers to purchase groceries.
Many children will get these benefits automatically, but some households will need to apply. The benefits will be added to an existing SNAP/TANF EBT card or a newly issued Summer EBT card.
Note: Benefits for Summer of 2025 will begin being issued to all eligible children in mid-August.
Eligibility
Children who applied and were approved for free/reduced-price school meals or who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits are automatically eligible for SUN Bucks.
Most children who get Medicaid are also automatically eligible for SUN Bucks because their income level is under the income level for the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program. Children who get Medicaid through the Children with Special Needs category (PH 95) and children who are in the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) will have to apply for SUN Bucks.
Children are automatically eligible for the SUN Bucks Summer EBT program and do not need to apply to receive a benefit if:
- The household received SNAP or TANF between July 1, 2024 and August 31, 2025 and the child is enrolled in a school that participates in the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program; OR
- The household received SNAP or TANF between July 1, 2024 and August 31, 2025 and the child is not enrolled in a school that participates in the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program but was between ages 6-18 between July 1, 2024 and August 31, 2025; OR
- The child received Medicaid with qualifying income for the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program between July 1, 2024 and August 31, 2025 and the child is enrolled in a school that participates in the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program; OR
- The child received Medicaid with qualifying income for the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program between July 1, 2024 and August 31, 2025 and the child is not enrolled in a school that participates in the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program but is between ages 6-18 between July 1, 2024 and August 31, 2025; OR
- The child is in Head Start, is homeless, in foster care, or is a runaway and the child is enrolled in a school that participates in the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program; OR
- The child applied for and was determined eligible for free or reduced-priced meals through the National School Lunch or Breakfast Program.
- Applications received on or before August 31, 2024 will be considered for a SUN Bucks benefit this year.
- Applications received after August 31, 2025 will be considered for a SUN Bucks benefits during the 2026 application period next summer.
