Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (SEPAC)
Re-established in 2024, the Wissahickon School District Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (SEPAC) is a parent/guardian/caregiver-led, district recognized organization dedicated to supporting families and caregivers of students with IEPs, GIEPs, and 504 Plans. The committee’s mission is to advise, advocate, recommend and offer guidance to the Special Education Department to promote equal access and inclusion across the Wissahickon School District.
The Wissahickon SEPAC committee will:
- Provide informational workshops, events, and outreach: Topics related to special education and gifted programming will be covered, including IEP guidance, executive functioning, acceleration, transition, mental health, and more.
- Have representation at each of the three levels: Committee representatives will be assigned to the elementary, middle, and high school levels to help families connect with district representatives and resources. They will identify systematic needs affecting Special Education, Gifted Supports and 504 plans, working with Student Services administration on presentations, workshops, and information sessions.
- Host four yearly meetings: In collaboration with Student Services administration, the committee will schedule four meetings per year. Each meeting will include 60 minutes of presentations on specific topics followed by 45 minutes of parent group discussions.
- Schedule regular meetings with Student Services administrators: Following each committee meeting, grade level representatives will meet with Student Services administrators to discuss feedback, answer questions, and plan for future meetings.
The Special Education Parent Advisory Committee welcomes all parents of children with IEPs, GIEPs and/or 504 plans. For questions or comments regarding SEPAC, please contact a committee representative at one of the three emails below.
