District News
Dear Wissahickon School District Community,
As I prepare to serve as your next superintendent, I am committed to listening, learning, and leveraging the remarkable strengths of our district as we move forward.
Below, I have included an overview of my engagement plan, during which my primary focus will be engaging with you—the heart of our district. Understanding your perspectives, insights, and aspirations is essential for shaping a vision for the future.
- Community Meet and Greet Events: Join me for two informal gatherings where we can meet one another and share ideas in a welcoming atmosphere. These events are scheduled to occur at WSD's Central Office prior to scheduled Board meetings, so you’re encouraged to join the Meet and Greet and stay for the Public Board meeting.
- Community Conversations Event: This structured event will allow me to introduce myself more formally and provide organized spaces for you to share your insights and hopes for our district. Look out for an invitation for this event later this spring.
- Meetings with Local Leaders: I will meet with leaders from local faith-based organizations, law enforcement agencies, and community groups to strengthen the partnerships that support our students and families.
- Targeted “Listening & Learning” Sessions: I will meet with student groups, staff members, administrators, and board members to hear their unique perspectives and experiences.
- District Events: Throughout the year, I will continue to attend various district events, such as workshops, sports, and music events. If you see me at an event, please feel welcome to introduce yourself – say “hello” and let me know what makes you proud to be part of Wiss Nation and share your ideas for how we can continue to grow stronger together.
As transparency and relationships are central to my leadership, I will document my journey with pictures and videos so that you can follow along and see how your voices are shaping our future.
Please be sure to check out the overview of my engagement plan. I’d love for you to join the events and share your thoughts—whether in person or by email, your voice matters. I look forward to connecting with many of you and working together to ensure every student thrives in Wissahickon School District.
Lastly, I’m excited to continue with our podcast project called Leading with Dignity: Casual Conversations with Dr. Dawan! As you may recall, in each episode, I’ll connect with our WSD leaders to showcase their personalities, passions, and stories behind their roles. Click on the links below to listen to the most two most recent episodes, and be sure to check out the YouTube channel for all of the previous episodes.
- Episode #3: Ms. Danielle Hey, Director of Human Resources
- Episode #4: Dr. Jason Bialka, Shady Grove Elementary School Principal
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
With gratitude and anticipation,
Mwenyewe Dawan, Ed.D.
Assistant Superintendent
