District News
Recognizing the extent to which sleep impacts our students' overall health and wellbeing, the district is pleased to continue its partnership with the Janet Weis Children's Hospital (JWCH) at Geisinger Health and Dr. Anne Marie Morse to provide the innovative Wake Up and Learn (WUAL) program to our students. Wake Up and Learn is a school-based sleep education and assessment program that helps empower students, parents, and educators to adopt healthy sleep patterns and improve their overall mental, physical, and emotional health. The two main components of the partnership are as follows:
Sleep Education: Throughout the year, the district will share monthly educational resources from Wake Up and Learn via our district newsletter, Wiss Watch, and on the website. View Tip Sheet: Better sleep for a better year
Free Sleep Assessment for Students: In spring 2025, we will partner with Wake Up and Learn for the second year to administer free, validated, clinical sleep assessments to students in grades 7 to 12. The surveys help identify sleep behaviors in children and potential signs of a sleep problem. Parents/guardians may opt their student out of the survey if preferred. Opt-out forms will be emailed to families in February with more information.
