Support New State-of-the Art Round Gym Scoreboards!

Wissahickon High School (WHS) started a fundraising initiative last year to replace outdated scoreboards in WHS Round Gym (installed circa 1990) with two new full-color LED scoreboards including one with intelligent caption and graphics capabilities or “message centers”. Wissahickon students and community groups that rent the space for games and other events use the Round Gym year round. Wissahickon High School, located in Ambler, PA serves more than 1,300 students in grades 9-12.

The 10’ x 5’ x 8’ Nevco Scoreboard with Video Message Center and second 8' x 5'11" x 8" would be used for Wissahickon High School Volleyball, Wrestling, and Basketball games, school assemblies and events, health and physical education classes and community usage. The Intelligent Caption features on the 21st century scoreboard provide the flexibility to customize the team name for every team that plays at our facility and electronically change the captions to match the sport with the simple press of a button. Additionally, the moving messages, ads and exciting animations on the full-color LED message center captures the attention of the crowds and builds excitement and team spirit.

The benefits to the school community are both curricular and extracurricular. Students enrolled in courses, including Introduction to Television/Video Production; Television I: The Creative Producers; Television Production I and II; Advanced Video Editing; Sports and Entertainment Marketing; Graphic Design I, II, III, would learn about and support programming the scoreboard and message center, creating content, graphics and advertisements. Boys and girls sporting events are televised by Wissahickon TV students and the WTV Club.

The scoreboard will also be used for health and physical education classes, summer camps and school assemblies and pep rallies.

Extracurricular benefits include timing/scorekeeping for Varsity and JV volleyball, basketball, wrestling, PIAA Playoffs, as well as special events and activities held in Round Gym, such as robotics and cheerleading competitions, fundraisers and much more. Community sports groups also rent the Round Gym for their games and events.

Additionally, the video message board will be used to bring in potential advertising revenue to support other Athletic Program improvements. The high school plans to offer different levels of advertising on the message board to local businesses interested in promoting their business to the thousands of fans, students, families and community members who attend sporting events and other events/activities at Wissahickon High School.

The estimated cost for products and installation is $39,000 (all equipment and installation included). Sponsors are welcome and will receive advertising on the message center following installation. Contact Kristen Rawlings at krawlings@wsdweb.org or 215-619-8022 for more information.
