Wake Up and Learn
Overview
Recognizing the extent to which sleep impacts overall health and wellbeing, Wissahickon School District is proud to partner with the Janet Weis Children's Hospital (JWCH) at Geisinger Health and Dr. Anne Marie Morse to provide the innovative Wake Up and Learn (WUAL) program to our students. Wake Up and Learn is a school-based sleep education and assessment program that helps empower students, parents, and educators to adopt healthy sleep patterns and improve their overall mental, physical, and emotional health. The two main components of the partnership are as follows:
Sleep Education:
Throughout the year, the district shares educational resources from Wake Up and Learn via email, social media and the district website. We invite all families to review these resources to support your child.
Free Sleep Assessment for Students:
Each spring, Wake Up and Learn will administer free, validated, clinical sleep habit assessment to students in grades 7 to 12. The confidential surveys help identify sleep behaviors in children and potential signs of a sleep problem. Students and families will receive customized tips and resources from WUAL to support their child. Parent/guardian may opt their student out of the survey if preferred.

Please contact Kristen Rawlings, WSD Communications Coordinator, at communications@wsdweb.org if you have questions about the district partnership. Sleep Week Contest for Grades 7-12
Turn your good sleep strategies into a gift card!
Your sleep habits affect your learning, athletic performance, and so much more. Now, they can support a shopping spree, too!
Beginning January 2025, all students in grades 7-12 are invited to participate in a Sleep Week contest sponsored by our partner, Wake Up and Learn (WUAL).
Students are challenged to create a poster with a phrase, acronym or short poem about sleep geared toward a teenage audience. Their creations should highlight why healthy sleep is important, provide guidance on improving sleep, or inspire others to prioritize sleep. View Submission Guidelines
Winners will be announced for Sleep Week (March 9 – 15) and will receive an Amazon gift card from WUAL. Their submissions will be displayed in the WSD schools and on social media and newsletters.
